Dear AuntMinnie Member,
Intent on getting a better handle on radiation dose, health regulatory officials in Texas have announced a new rule designed to improve the reporting of radiation dose for CT and fluoroscopy procedures.
As reported by international editor Eric Barnes in our CT Digital Community, the rule becomes effective May 1 and requires imaging providers to maintain records of radiation output, have radiation control programs in place, and establish acceptable dose thresholds.
The Texas rule takes a slightly different tack from what's been put in place in California through legislative action. Learn more by clicking here, or visit our CT Digital Community at ct.auntminnie.com.
St. Barnabas reconsiders?
There have been new developments in our coverage of St. Barnabas Hospital, the New York City facility that earlier this year said it would close its residency program.
St. Barnabas initially planned to stop its residency program after the current academic year, but the hospital now plans to keep it going until 2014 -- and might not even end the program at all, according to an article in our Residents Digital Community.
Under the extended plan, two more residents will be able to complete their training before the program's closure. That would still leave as many as nine residents in the lurch; however, there is at least one educational institution in the region that might pick up the slack.
What's behind St. Barnabas' move to terminate the program in the first place? Read more about this still-developing story by clicking here, or visit our Residents Digital Community at residents.auntminnie.com.
