The Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA) has received an award from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its efforts to mitigate radiation dose in CT equipment.
The FDA gave MITA's partner, the CT Nomenclature Working Group, its Center for Devices and Radiological Health Director's Special Citation Award for developing CT imaging radiation safety instructional materials, according to MITA.
The CT Nomenclature Working Group is led by the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM). Working with AAPM and other industry partners, MITA developed consensus protocols for frequently performed CT examinations, summarizing the basic requirements of the exam and giving several model-specific examples of scan and reconstruction parameters, MITA said.
