The Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) this week launched a public awareness campaign that urges the public to get CT lung screening scans.
Using the tag line "Experience more moments, get a scan," the campaign urges individuals to find out if they are at risk of lung cancer and to get a low-dose CT screening scan if they are. The campaign focuses on the "inherent beauty of everyday, potentially missed moments," according to the organization.
Elements of the multimedia campaign will appear in 15 regional markets, based on lung cancer incidence rates and the presence of local centers of excellence that perform screening. The campaign will also target African-Americans and military veterans, which are two high-risk groups; LCA plans to expand the campaign as funding allows.
The campaign was spurred by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force's (USPSTF) recommendation in July of CT lung screening for high-risk individuals, defined as current and former smokers with at least a 30 pack-year history of smoking.
LCA has been advocating for better lung cancer screening protocols for more than 10 years; its most recent campaign directs individuals to its online Risk Navigator for assessing risk for lung cancer.
