Merger of Danish firms creates osteoporosis company

Two Danish companies, Osteometer BioTech and Osteopro, have merged to form Nordic Bioscience, a biotech company specializing in osteoporosis research.

Osteometer BioTech brings a background in the development of diagnostic and monitoring products for bone diseases, while Osteopro has specialized in medical intervention in bone diseases, developing a number of drugs in this area.

Nordic Bioscience will be headquartered in Herlev, Denmark, near Copenhagen, where both merger partners are located. The company will integrate the diagnostic and therapeutic research of the two partners within certain disease areas -- primarily bone diseases such as osteoporosis and bone metastasis, and cartilage diseases such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

A current distributor of Osteopro drugs and one of the major shareholders in the new company is Roche Diagnostics, headquartered in Basel, Switzerland.
