GE Medical Systems introduces real-time bone imaging

The Food and Drug Administration has cleared a bone ultrasonometer with real-time imaging by GE Medical Systems of Waukesha, WI. The system allows physicians to see the bone area of interest prior to conducting the measurement.

The Achilles InSight bone ultrasonometer uses sound waves to estimate osteoporotic fracture risk, aid diagnosis, and monitor therapy by measuring the heel. Heel measurements using ultrasound can predict osteoporotic fractures of the hip, spine, and forearm.
