Dear AuntMinnie Member,
Cutting radiation dose during imaging procedures has become a hot topic of late. While multislice CT has garnered much of the attention, fluoroscopy is another imaging exam that could benefit from a reduction in dose.
In this week's Digital X-Ray Community, staff writer Eric Barnes describes a method Israeli researchers have tested to reduce the dose delivered to patients. Called last fluoroscopy hold (LFH), the technique is a sort of TiVo for fluoro that enables radiologists to quickly review a sequence of images.
Radiologists compared the technique to another dose-reduction technology, last image hold (LIH). They found that LFH was more effective than LIH because it enabled clinicians to review a dynamic clip of hundreds of images, rather than a single static image, as is done with LIH.
