Philips Healthcare parent Royal Philips Electronics said it has made an alliance with cardiac cath lab technology developer Corindus Vascular Robotics.
Corindus' robotic-assisted system, CorPath 200, provides robotic-assisted placement of coronary guidewires and stent/balloon catheters in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures. Philips will add the system to its interventional radiology devices, the company said. As part of the alliance agreement, Philips has acquired a minority stake in Corindus. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
In March, Corindus announced that the first patients had been enrolled in its CorPath clinical trial, which is expected to enlist 175 patients at leading medical centers across the U.S. The results of this study will be the basis for a 510(k) clearance application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), according to Philips.
