3D imaging device developer Imaging3 has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in a California court, according to a September 17 press release issued by the firm.
Imaging3 has been developing the Dominion volumetric imaging scanner (DVIS), an O-shaped device that resembles a cross between a CT scanner and a mobile C-arm. The device is designed to be able to produce real-time 3D images that could be used for applications such as intraoperative guidance.
Imaging3 has been trying to secure U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for the system for the last several years, and in 2010 was asked to resubmit a 510(k) application for the system, a process it was working on into late 2011.
In the press release, the company said that it filed for Chapter 11 on September 13 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California, Los Angeles Division. It did not provide any additional details on the filing.
