Swedish ultrasound bone density technology developer Bone Index said the American Medical Association has issued a new category III current procedural terminology (CPT) code for measurements of osteoporosis on its Bindex point-of-care ultrasound device.
Bindex measures the cortical thickness of the tibia and calculates the density index, a parameter that estimates bone mineral density at the hip. The device yields 90% sensitivity and specificity for detecting osteoporosis, according to the vendor.
Bone Index said it has been awarded a total of 19 patents worldwide for Bindex.
