UFE gets boost from public education effort

SCVIR has launched a campaign to raise awareness about uterine fibroid embolization (UFE). Interventional radiologists can visit the Web site of the Society of Cardiovascular & Interventional Radiology to obtain patient information on the procedure, or direct women to www.uterinefibroids.org.

According to a SCVIR survey, 71% of women seek treatment for uterine fibroids from their gynecologist. After diagnosis, 49% of the women surveyed said they did not seek treatment from any other physician; only 1% stated that they consulted with an interventional radiologist.

SCIVR will run both print and broadcast public service announcements about UFE in the upcoming months.
