BALTIMORE - The Society of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology (SCVIR) has changed its name to the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR). In addition, the 29-year-old society changed its logo and adopted a new motto: "Enhanced care though advanced technology."
The group interviewed both primary care physicians and consumers before proposing the change in an effort to ensure that the name reflected the work that the interventionalists perform. Society members voted in favor of the new moniker on Tuesday at the society’s annual meeting.
"We’ve done some very good strategic planning to move ahead and to make this society and subspecialty grow," said Dr. Curtis Bakal, president of SIR. "People in the specialties know us as interventional radiologists."
