Interventional technology developer AngioDynamics has released its Total Abscession general drainage catheter, a catheter designed to percutaneously drain abscesses and other fluid collections.
Total Abscession features a tamper-resistant locking mechanism known as the Vault, which eliminates additional procedures to replace drainage catheters when the locking pigtail shape becomes unlocked during routine catheter maintenance, according to AngioDynamics. The catheter also permits aspiration while the pigtail is in either the locked or unlocked position, allowing accuracy in placement and greater versatility for draining complex situations, the company said.
AngioDynamics said it will showcase the catheter at the Society of Interventional Radiology annual meeting later this week in New Orleans. The Total Abscession product will be available for limited distribution in the U.S. immediately, the Queensbury, NY-based firm said.
