William Hawkins, chairman and CEO of interventional technology firm Medtronic, will retire from both positions at the end of the company's current fiscal year on April 29, 2011.
The company's board of directors has begun an external search for Hawkins' replacement. Hawkins plans to remain in both positions until his successor is appointed, according to the Minneapolis-based firm.
Hawkins was elected CEO in August of 2007 and chairman of the board in 2008. He joined the company in 2002 as senior vice president and president of Medtronic's vascular business and became president and chief operating officer in 2004.
