A radiologist in Wyoming has been forced off the state’s board of medicine by Governor Mark Gordon for openly supporting a bill that bans transgender treatments and surgeries on minors, according to an article published in the Cowboy State Daily.
Eric Cubin, MD, an interventional radiologist in the city of Casper, was forced to resign from the Wyoming Board of Medicine by Republican Gov. Gordon last month after he urged state lawmakers to back the ban in an email, the newspaper reported May 28.
The law, called the Children Gender Change Prohibition, bans the use of surgeries, cross-sex hormones, and puberty blockers on kids for gender-change purposes and takes effect July 1. The law can revoke a physician’s license if he or she has offered any “gender-affirming care” to children in Wyoming.
Cubin, the son of former Wyoming congresswoman Barbara Cubin, sent an email to all 62 members of the Wyoming legislature in February asking for their support for the bill, according to the article.
Gordon told Cubin he planned to remove him because Cubin’s comments showed a clear bias that could give Wyoming doctors licensed by the board “a reason to be concerned that you might use your position to advocate for a particular position,” when topics like these should be addressed without prejudice, the Cowboy State Daily reported.
