Molecular imaging developer Positron has received two U.S. patents for its quantum photodetector technology.
The first patent, No. 7,800,070, describes a quantum photodetector, a readout system to process the signal and imaging apparatus that can be built with these detectors, according to the Fishers, IN-based firm. Patent No. 7,825,384 covers a quantum detector array with binary quantum sensor elements, Positron said.
The quantum detector can count single photons, the basic quantum units of light. As a replacement for photomultiplier tubes, quantum detectors have potential medical imaging applications, particularly in PET, Positron said.
