The Imaging Dementia -- Evidence for Amyloid Scanning (IDEAS) study has opened for patient enrollment, according to the American College of Radiology (ACR).
The study will include more than 18,000 Medicare beneficiaries and will explore the clinical value of a PET scan to detect brain amyloid accumulation that is the hallmark of Alzheimer's disease.
Board-certified neurologists, psychiatrists, and geriatric medicine physicians interested in enrolling eligible patients in the IDEAS study, along with PET facilities that would like to join the study as imaging sites, may apply for participation at IDEAS-Study.org, the ACR said.
The study will not directly recruit patients; instead, participants must be referred by dementia specialists. Participating PET facilities and interpreting physicians will be reimbursed for the scans under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) coverage with evidence development policy, according to the ACR.
