Biotechnology firm RadioMedix and nuclear medicine company Curium said that the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has provided a permanent Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) code for their Detectnet PET diagnostic radiopharmaceutical copper-64 (Cu-64) DOTATATE.

The code, A9592, will be effective April 1, and it will have the product descriptor of Cu-64, DOTATATE, diagnostic, 1 millicurie. This code will be available for Medicare billing claims from nonhospital imaging centers and for private insurance patients in all imaging facilities, according to the companies.

Detectnet, which is indicated for localization of somatostatin receptor-positive neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) in adult patients, received transitional pass-through status in late 2020 to bill Detectnet for Medicare patients under the code C9068 in hospital outpatient departments. That status took effect on January 1.
