Strong growth expected for PET, gamma camera markets

The PET market is projected to grow to more than $880 million by 2007, and the gamma camera sector to more than $426 million, according to data from San Jose, CA-based healthcare analysts Frost & Sullivan.

The PET market produced more than $200 million in revenues in 2000, due to the growing use of PET and newly approved Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements for PET applications. The gamma camera market will also grow, although it is currently nearing saturation, say F&S analysts. Growth in the gamma camera sector will come mainly through the development of new applications for existing technologies, the improvement of product specifications, and use of newer radiopharmaceuticals, F&S said.
