Siemens Medical Solutions is highlighting its high-definition PET technology at this week's annual meeting of the SNM, formerly the Society for Nuclear Medicine, in Washington, DC.
HD-PET is designed to provide enhanced clarity throughout the entire field-of-view by optimizing the elements of image uniformity, resolution, and contrast, according to the Malvern, PA-based vendor. Using a proprietary reconstruction technique, HD-PET can provide distortion-free images, and its improved 2-mm resolution allows for visualizing lesions from the center to the edges, Siemens said.
Siemens believes HD-PET offers the promise of improved detection of small lesions as well as greater staging capabilities and therapy accuracy. Based on the company's TruePoint Technologies, the high-definition capability will be an option on all Biograph TruePoint systems, as well as an upgrade option for current users.
In other Siemens' SNM news, the company is highlighting three syngo software packages. An enhanced version of its syngo TrueD software is on display, featuring workflow improvements for hybrid imaging systems users, Siemens said.
In addition, syngo Circulation is now available for use with hybrid imaging scanners. Another syngo package, syngo Scenium, provides neurological evaluations with either PET/CT or SPECT/CT imaging, according to the firm.
Finally, the company has added 10 slices to its Symbia T6 SPECT/CT system to come up with Symbia T16. The first installation of the 16-slice SPECT/CT unit will go into M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston in September, with commercial shipments beginning at the end of 2007.
