Siemens unveils 16-slice PET/CT

Siemens Healthcare of Malvern, PA, has introduced its new Biograph TruePoint 16-slice PET/CT system.

The work-in-progress hybrid scanner, showcased at the recent 2009 European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in Vienna, includes high-definition PET/CT technology and upgrades to 16-slice CT capabilities.

The system is designed for 10-minute whole-body imaging at lower patient doses, and is equipped with a patient bed with a 500-lb capacity. The system is pending 510(k) approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
