The Canadian government has begun taking proposals for the nuclear reactor division of Atomic Energy of Canada (AECL).
In a December 17 statement, Canada's Natural Resources Minister Lisa Raitt said AECL's reactor division "needs strategic investors to take full advantage of this opportunity, strengthen its global presence, and reduce the financial risks carried by taxpayers."
The division includes three lines of business -- new projects, life-extension or refurbishment projects, and general services -- which have approximately 1,800 full-time employees.
According to the statement, proposals must meet the government's objectives to control costs and maximize the return on investment to taxpayers.
