AMIC plans medical isotope production in Colo.

Medical isotope producer Advanced Medical Isotope (AMIC) has formed a strategic alliance with Safety by Design of Colorado to develop medical isotope products in the greater metropolitan Denver.

The companies are also collaborating with Colorado State University in Fort Collins.

Isotope products will be produced using a 1-megawatt TRIGA reactor that is currently operating at the Denver Federal Center in south Denver. The initial production will focus on a skin cancer product (Holmium 166 [Ho-166]). Subsequent plans are to use the same isotope to develop products for the treatment of joint pain, liver cancer, and multiple myeloma.
