The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) has announced a new slate of officers for the coming year at its annual meeting in Denver.
The society's president for the 2017-2018 term is Dr. Bennett Greenspan, a professor of radiology at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. He has also worked at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, the University of Rochester, the University of Missouri-Columbia, and Washington University in St. Louis.
Greenspan's area of focus has been PET/CT imaging in oncology, particularly using PET to characterize malignancies; the evaluation of osteoporosis; and the effects of low-level radiation. He also has a strong interest in the promotion of value and quality in imaging, and he will continue the SNMMI's development of appropriate use criteria and updating procedure guidelines for nuclear medicine procedures. He also plans to work on improving the regulatory approval process for novel radiotracers, according to the SNMMI.
In addition to Greenspan, Dr. Vasken Dilsizian was named vice president-elect of the SNMMI. Dilsizian is a professor of radiology and medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and is chief of the division of nuclear medicine at the University of Maryland. His goals for the year include partnering with other professional and international organizations to strengthen the SNMMI's advocacy efforts, as well as growing the international membership of the organization.
In the SNMMI Technologist Section, Kathleen Krisak, a nuclear medicine technologist at Holyoke Medical Center in Holyoke, MA, was named president for the 2017-2018 period. In addition, Norman Bolus, program director of the nuclear medicine technology program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Health Professions, was named president-elect.
