SAN DIEGO - The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) formally named Sally Schwarz from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis as its new president at this week's annual meeting.
The nuclear pharmacist and professor of radiology plans to focus during her 12-month term on the development of a Qualified Person (QP) training program to cross-train chemists and pharmacists for the release of manufactured radiopharmaceuticals, including PET, SPECT, and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals, according to the SNMMI. In addition, she will try to raise awareness and understanding of isotope availability, radiopharmaceutical development, and U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention and U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulatory issues.
The SNMMI also announced that Dr. Bennett Greenspan, a professor of radiology at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, has been appointed as president-elect. As president-elect for 2016-2017, Greenspan plans to work on developing viable training pathways for nuclear medicine residents and on reinstituting the Future Leaders Academy, according to the SNMMI. He will also work on developing and supporting medical physics residencies for nuclear medicine physicists and establishing a reliable domestic source of radionuclide production for diagnostic clinical studies, research, and radionuclide therapy.
