UCLA to launch department of nuclear medicine and theranostics

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) will open a department of nuclear medicine and theranostics on January 1, 2026.

The new division will integrate advanced imaging and therapy and will focus on supporting precision medicine, the school said. Johannes Czernin, MD, will be acting department chair, while Jeremie Calais, MD, PhD, will direct its clinical research program.

The department originated from the school’s Ahmanson Translational Theranostics Division in its department of molecular and medical pharmacology and will be staffed by physicians, technologists, nurses, graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, research associates, and project scientists, UCLA noted.
