The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the opening of a cyclotron facility at the Mayor Clinic in Jacksonville, FL.
The cyclotron will be used to produce nuclear medicine radiopharmaceuticals such as carbon-11 (C-11) choline for imaging recurrent prostate cancer; F-18 FDG for cancer, cardiac, and neurological imaging; nitrogen-13 (N-13) ammonia for cardiac imaging; and F-18 sodium fluoride (NaF) for skeletal metastatic disease.
The facility can expand production to include future FDA-approved radiopharmaceuticals, the Mayo Clinic said. The cyclotron is the only facility in the region to offer investigational PET radiopharmaceuticals for use in clinical practice and research.
