Dr. Michal Eifer and a group at Tel Aviv University conducted a study that included all adults who underwent PET/CT scans at Chaim Sheba Medical Center in Ramat Gan between December 23, 2020, and January 27, 2021 -- the first month of the COVID-19 vaccination rollout in Israel.
Out of 426 eligible patients, 377 underwent F-18 FDG PET/CT. The team found positive axillary lymph node uptake in 45% of patients and an analysis revealed a strong inverse association between positive FDG uptake in ipsilateral lymph nodes and patient age, immunosuppressive treatment, and presence of hematological disease.
Eifer, a diagnostic imaging resident, will discuss the study in detail as well as its potential clinical impact, given hundreds of millions of people worldwide have yet to receive COVID-19 vaccines.
