The CEO of MRI contrast agent developer Epix Medical, Michael Webb, has joined the board of directors of the Medical Imaging Contrast Agent Association (MICAA). A non-profit organization, MICAA provided Congress with information that led to the inclusion of contrast agent provisions in the Medicare, Medicaid, and SCHIP Benefits Improvement and Protection Act of 2000, Webb said.
Provisions in the law, which was signed by President Clinton in December, clarify the definition of contrast agents as drugs under Medicare reimbursement, and require the Health Care Financing Administration to create additional classifications to facilitate reimbursement, according to Cambridge, MA-based Epix.
