Tyco launches MRI-compatible fire extinguisher

Tyco Fire & Security of Marinette, WI, has launched a new nonmagnetic fire extinguisher designed for specialized areas such as MRI rooms.

The company's Ansul Cleanguard extinguisher uses a nonmagnetic stainless-steel shell and a nonmagnetic valve, discharge hose, and nozzle. Tests have shown the extinguisher to be nonmagnetic up to 3 tesla, according to the company.

The Cleanguard product line is a halon-replacement extinguisher, and is effective in extinguishing class A, B, and C fires, according to the company. It uses a low-toxicity extinguishing agent that is appropriate for areas such as laboratories and MRI suites, the company said.
