GE invests in Chinese manufacturing plant

GE Healthcare has completed a $37.5 million investment in its Chinese biosciences manufacturing facility.

The Shanghai plant, which currently manufactures close to 5 million units of the Chalfont St. Giles, U.K.-based vendor's x-ray and MR contrast media, will be expanded over the next two years to increase production capacity to 15 million units. The plant could eventually be expanded to produce up to 30 million units annually, GE said.

The plant is currently undergoing a review process to become a Food and Drug Administration-approved site for contrast media, allowing the plant to also supply product to the U.S. and numerous other markets, according to the vendor.
