Clinical Magnetic Resonance Imaging - Volume 3 by Robert R. Edelman, John R. Hesselink, Michael B. Zlatkin, and John V. Crues, III, 3rd ed.
Elsevier Health, St. Louis, MO, 2006, $579
The newly expanded and improved third edition of this mammoth three-volume set reflects the significant changes in MRI technology. New features include the extensive use of color illustrations.
Volume three covers body and musculoskeletal MRI. In addition to the expected body MRI topics, there are chapters dedicated to prostate, fetal, and pediatric body MRI. These sections are clear and well written, providing practical information for day-to-day use.
The musculoskeletal section is particularly outstanding, with contributions from internationally recognized academic radiologists. There is an interesting chapter dedicated to functional assessment of the joints utilizing kinematic MRI techniques, a surprising and welcome discussion that is not found in most musculoskeletal MRI texts.
Other chapters cover joint internal derangement, TMJ evaluation, pediatric musculoskeletal MRI. Cartilage, synovium, bone marrow, and muscle are also discussed. There is a useful appendix of MRI scan protocols for quick reference, with the protocols organized by author and/or his institution.
The editors of Clinical Magnetic Resonance Imaging have exceeded expectations with this update. Although the set's price may seem high, the quality of information and images makes it well worth it. This set is a must-have for any academic, private practice, or personal radiological library.
