E-Z-EM gets FDA nod for EmpowerMR

Contrast and virtual colonoscopy accessory developer E-Z-EM has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for its EmpowerMR contrast injector system.

E-Z-EM's first product for the MR imaging market, EmpowerMR employs the same interface and safety features as other products in the Empower injector line, according to the Lake Success, NY-based firm. It also includes several features designed to cope with the problem of electrical interference in the MR scanner magnetic field, the company said.

EmpowerMR employs a patent-pending hydraulic control system, and has no shielded iron core motors, piezoelectric motors, or electrically active motor control circuitry adjacent to the scanner, E-Z-EM said. It can be used in MR field strengths up to 7 tesla.
