Dear AuntMinnie Member,
This week brings news from Germany, as the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) meeting gets under way. Staff writer Shalmali Pal is in Berlin to report for our MRI Digital Community, and has already filed several articles on the latest research being presented in MRI.
One story covers the development of a new coronary MR technique for picking the most appropriate veins for cardiac resynchronization therapy in patients with congestive heart failure. The presenters hope the technique can help avoid implantation failure using a less invasive imaging modality than the current standards, x-ray fluoroscopy and CT venography. Get the details by clicking here.
Another presentation examines MRI's role in pediatric musculoskeletal imaging, both for sports injuries and general orthopedic work. That article is available by clicking here. Finally, the use of functional MRI as a presurgical management tool for brain tumor resection -- as a replacement for intraoperative cortical stimulation -- is covered in this story.

In other news, Hologic of Bedford, MA, surprised the imaging community this week by announcing its biggest acquisition yet -- the purchase of Cytyc, a Boston-area company specializing in Pap smear tests and other women's health products. The deal would move Hologic outside of its core imaging market and would double the size of the company. Learn more about the strategy behind the deal by clicking here.
