Managing NSF; CCTA's cost-effectiveness; Minnies nominations

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

A study in the September issue of Radiology offers new insight into what works best for minimizing the incidence of nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) following administration of gadolinium-based contrast media for MRI studies.

As reported by staff writer Wayne Forrest in our MRI Digital Community, the study supports some accepted NSF mitigation strategies, such as performing hemodialysis in certain at-risk patient groups. And it offers additional insight into the origins of this mysterious disease. Click here to learn more, or visit the community at mri.auntminnie.com.

CCTA's cost-effectiveness

In other news, a new study in the American Journal of Roentgenology found that using coronary CT angiography (CCTA) to triage patients presenting with acute chest pain can save money for certain groups of patients compared to the current standard of care.

The topic adds fuel to the debate over CCTA and whether its use should be encouraged. Find out more by clicking here, or visit our Cardiac Imaging Digital Community.
