(Booth 9113) Covidien of Hazelwood, MO, plans to feature new products from its Imaging Solutions business, including the Optistar Elite MR contrast injector, at the 2008 RSNA show.

Launched in July 2008, Optistar Elite features improved performance and ease of use compared with the older Optistar LE model. One new feature on the injector is patency check, which helps prevent contrast extravasation, reduce medical errors, and enhance clinical workflow and efficiency, according to the company.

The feature enables healthcare providers to confirm an unobstructed, or patent, fluid pathway to the patient prior to contrast injection. A visual alert on the injector power head and control console warns clinicians when the programmed pressure limit engages due to a blockage during the patency check.

Optistar Elite has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance, as well as the European CE Mark.

Optistar Elite is compatible with Covidien's unit-dose Ultraject prefilled contrast media syringes, which are designed to reduce the risk of certain medication-dispensing and mislabeling errors that may occur when syringes are filled manually from multidose packages.
