Philips Healthcare is launching an MRI scanner optimized for radiation oncology applications at this week's American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) meeting.
Ingenia MR-RT Oncology Configuration is an MRI scanner designed to support radiation therapy studies, allowing users to integrate MRI into their CT-based radiation treatment workflow. The system sports a 70-cm wide-bore design and Philips' digital broadband architecture, which digitizes signals directly at the radiofrequency coil.
The scanner was designed to improve workflow for radiation oncology clinicians. It includes customized imaging protocols for procedures involving the brain, head and neck, prostate, and female pelvis, as well as quality assurance tools and training for radiation oncology staff through onsite and webcast-based modules.
Philips is also showcasing other products at the ASTRO 2013 meeting, including its Brilliance Big Bore CT scanner and Gemini TF Big Bore PET/CT scanner.
For its Pinnacle3 treatment planning software, Philips is showing several new features, including Pinnacle3 version 9.4 with SPICE, which automates the contouring process and improves consistency. Pinnacle3 version 9.6 with dynamic planning provides a fast assessment to determine the need to replan a procedure, and it dynamically tracks the impact of patient changes to treatment plans.
Finally, Pinnacle3 version 9.8 reduces planning time by quickly calculating the dose required for patients.
