The family of a Medford, NY, man is suing a Suffolk County radiology center alleging that an accident prior to his MRI scan led to a stroke and eventually his death.
According to a report from News 12 Long Island, 79-year-old Dan Mahony went to Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology in Medford in 2009 for an MRI.
Staff told Mahony to remove all metal from his body before the exam, according to Mahony's son, but he was not told to leave behind his metal walker.
When Mahony entered the MRI room, the MRI's magnetic field pulled the walker from him and caused him to fall and hit his head on the floor, the suit alleges. Mahony suffered a stroke two days after the accident and died two months later, News 12 Long Island reported.
