MRI now available in Canada's North

Whitehorse General Hospital in the Yukon has installed the first MR scanner in Canada's North region.

A new facility that houses the MR scanner from Siemens Healthcare is open ahead of schedule, with the first patient exams scheduled for next week, according to Yukon Hospital Corp.

The Yukon Hospital Foundation led a campaign to raise $2 million to buy the MR scanner, and the Yukon government then matched the $2 million in funds and contributed an additional $2.8 million to build the facility, according to Yukon Hospital Corp. The new MRI program is initially expected to conduct about 1,800 patient exams per year.
