Radiation oncology firm Elekta plans to introduce a high-field MRI-guided radiation therapy system in 2017.
Elekta said it is developing the system, called Atlantic, with its MRI technology partner Philips Healthcare. It plans to begin delivering Atlantic in 2018, subject to regulatory clearances.
The company expects high-field MRI-guided radiation therapy to be the standard of care within the next decade, despite the fact that the cost of an MRI-guided radiation therapy system will be about four times that of Versa HD, Elekta's current high-end treatment machine.
