Device developer C4 Imaging said it has received $1.3 million in U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) funding.
The money will help fund the development of a new multimodality marker based on the firm's Sirius product that can improve the assessment of a wide range of diseases, the company said. Sirius is an MRI-based imaging marker that has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to help localize prostate cancer brachytherapy seeds.
The new money will help the firm speed its plan to develop additional MRI-focused products for cancer patients in a large and growing market, C4 said. The award will support a detailed development program, including product design, validation, and manufacturing, along with preclinical and clinical testing that will be performed in collaboration with MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
