Imagine having to wait 2.5 years for a follow-up MRI scan after having brain surgery.
That's the situation a woman in Surrey, British Columbia, is facing, according to a March 7 report by iNews880. The patient, Linda McClure, is experiencing headaches after undergoing surgery last year to remove the part of her brain that was causing epileptic seizures.
The situation has caught the attention of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, where one lawmaker blamed the provincial government for the deficiency, according to the report. On the other hand, Minister of Health Terry Lake said the ruling Liberal Party is addressing the shortage of MRI scanners, adding that the province increased funding for MRI devices in 2015.
In the meantime, McClure's neurologist is trying to schedule an MRI scan in Calgary, which apparently has a shorter waiting time.
This is not the first instance of wait times and delays for imaging appointments in Canada. A 2016 report found that patients in Calgary were experiencing delays in having a CT scan due to budget problems.
