Radiation oncology vendor Elekta is installing its investigational MR radiation therapy (MR/RT) system at the Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto.
The Unity MR-linac integrates a 1.5-tesla MRI scanner with an advanced linear accelerator and software to deliver targeted radiation doses while simultaneously taking MR images for clinicians to visualize tumors and direct appropriate treatment.
Sunnybrook is a member of Elekta's global MR-Linac Consortium of radiation oncologists, radiotherapists, and leaders in MRI and physics. The consortium's mission is to investigate how MR-linac technology can improve patient outcomes for existing radiation therapy indications and extend radiation therapy for additional indications.
