The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) and Toshiba America Medical Systems have announced grant recipients for their Safety First program.
The ASRT and Toshiba launched the grant program in 2015. Each year, it awards two ASRT members a grant of up to $7,000 each to improve radiologic technologist safety in their departments. This year's grant winners are Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA, and Union Health-Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN.
Mary Washington Hospital will use the award to purchase lead-free aprons that provide 20% more protection than standard lead-based equivalents. Union Health-Union Hospital will use its award to purchase an MRI-safe cart that will enable proper positioning of the patient and proper ergonomics for the technologist, the ASRT and Toshiba said.
