The American Medical Association (AMA) has issued two Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes for Perspectum's LiverMultiScan software.

LiverMultiScan provides reports from quantitative multiparametric liver MR scans to help clinicians diagnose and manage fatty liver disease, including nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The RSNA, American College of Radiology, and other prominent U.S. radiology associations submitted the CPT codes to the AMA CPT editorial panel.

The new codes go into effect on July 1, 2021. They are as follows:

  • 0648T -- Quantitative MR for analysis of tissue composition obtained without diagnostic MRI examination of the same anatomy during the same session.
  • 0649T -- Quantitative MR for analysis of tissue composition obtained with diagnostic MRI examination of the same anatomy.

Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial health plans often use CPT codes to describe healthcare procedures and services. Once in effect, hospitals and imaging centers can use the new CPT codes to submit claims for LiverMultiScan services, Perspectum noted.
