Focused ultrasound firm Insightec is highlighting results from a five-year study that found its MR-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) technology to be effective for treating essential tremor.
The study results, published in the Journal of Neurosurgery, showed that MRgFUS surgery with Insightec's technology led to sustained and significant essential tremor improvement at five years. This included an overall improvement in quality-of-life measures, as well as no progressive or delayed complications. More specifically, the company highlighted a 73.1% improvement in tremor sensitivity.
The study also confirms the long-term efficacy of MRgFUS for people who suffer from essential tremors. This follows a recent FDA approval of the technology in treating the second side tremor of appropriate patients. Insightec said its technology has been used to perform over 11,000 procedures worldwide.
