Radiotherapy vendor Varian Medical Systems announced strong net earnings, sales, net orders, and year-end backlog growth for its fourth quarter and fiscal 2001.
Fourth-quarter sales were a record $238 million, up 15% from the same period a year ago. The Palo Alto, CA, company had net earnings of $30 million for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2001 compared to $23 million in the same period a year earlier.
Varian said its oncology systems business, primarily linear accelerator technology, showed strong growth, which partially offset declines in the x-ray products unit. The company expects single-digit growth in the segment.
