ASTRO members take heart in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO - The fear of flying, bridge threats, and the anthrax menace apparently failed to discourage people from attending the 43rd annual meeting of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) meeting being held here this week.

At a presentation on Wednesday, ASTRO chairman Dr. David Larson announced the sixth straight year of record attendance for the meeting, which has doubled in size since 1995.

The 10,115 registrants for this year's meeting included 1,375 international participants from 55 nations. The scientific sessions were led by more than 300 speakers and faculty members, and 218 companies participated in the technical exhibits, ASTRO said.
