Varian Medical Systems has agreed to purchase MDS Nordion's HDR brachytherapy business for $11 million in cash. If the deal is completed, Palo Alto, CA-based Varian will add MDS Nordion's GammaMed afterloaders to its product line.
The purchase will allow Kanata, Ontario-based MDS Nordion to focus on its suite of oncology treatment planning and information management products, as well as its blood irradiator product lines. The acquisition is expected to be completed by mid-July.
