Radiation oncology pioneer dies

Dr. Simon Kramer, a former chairman of the American College of Radiology’s Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG), died on June 17. He was 83.

Kramer served as the chairman of the department of radiation oncology and nuclear medicine at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia for 14 years before retiring in 1983. He was named distinguished professor emeritus of the university in 1989.

Kramer was the principal founder of RTOG. The ACR has established a Simon Kramer Fund to support radiation oncology research efforts.
