Varian to distribute Lifeline verification software

Radiation oncology software developer Lifeline Software of Tyler, TX, has signed a deal with Varian Medical Systems giving Varian nonexclusive rights to distribute Lifeline’s RadCalc software. RadCalc will be used with Palo Alto, CA-based Varian’s treatment-planning systems to double-check dose calculations for intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT).

RadCalc will enable Varian customers to meet U.S. government requirements that all treatment-plan calculations be verified with an independent method. Clinicians using Varian’s Eclipse treatment-planning software will be able to import treatment plans directly into RadCalc via the DICOM RT interface, according to the companies.
